ARCHITECTURE

Paris 2024

Architectural transformation is a major part of the Olympic Games hosting process and we tell stories about the major interventions that are reimagining the cities in which they are held.

Andy Miah

“When the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games l a led to the creation of a building emulating the design of a computer hard drive, as its data security venue, it foreshadowed a new era of a digital-first Olympic Games.

The consequences of this are least as significant as the negotiation of rights-holder television contracts and we’re beginning to see the impact of these changes, as the Olympic movement seeks to prioritise social media activity.

The challenge will be to find an economic base that can keep it all going and not lose sight of how the tv industry is being reimagined for the 21st century.

With each Games edition, the challenge to do something distinct grows, but we see a lot more renovation and reuse than white elephants and this is a major impact of the focus on legacy, sustainability and growing concerns over environmental impact.” (2024.03.21)
