“One of the headlines from the launch was from long term Olympic partner Alibaba announcing it will use AI to colourize black and white historic footage from previous Games to show the events as they were supposed to be seen. This creates a new way of looking back on historical content, which introduces a nuance to the deep fake debate. Here, we can see how using AI to reveal the world as it really is, rather than how it is obscured by inadequate technology can improve truth, but it absolutely also changes our sense of history.” Prof Andy Miah
